Symon
Clarke is a well-established UK composer who, as well as orchestral and
chamber works, has written a number of pieces for gamelan.
Symon talks about his approach to writing for gamelan, the techniques he might use and the differences between writing for western instruments and the gamelan, together with some of the difficulties which arise when the two are put together.
The musical extracts featured are all taken from Symon's works for Javanese gamelan.
